On 15 January, a tweet emerged revealing a secret Google Maps Street View available nestled deep in a valley in Nagano Prefecture. The tweet simply read “Open-air bath on full display in Street View.”
To access this street view, just search “6845 Hirao, Yamanouchi Machi, Shimotakai, Nagano” in Google Maps.
It’s a little tricky to get the little yellow man right on the sweet spot. If you try right away you’ll bring up a bunch of blue photo squares which the yellow man will lock on to.
Instead zoom in as close as possible and you’ll see a yellow spot that links to street view. Google ruins the surprise by writing the place’s name in English, but if successful, you’ll get a full 360-degree view of the bathing monkeys of Jigokudani Monkey Park.
The monkeys were surprisingly more well behaved than a lot of people when the Google camera came around.
